OUR SLATE OF CANDIDATES FOR VILLAGE TRUSTEE
FOR THE APRIL 5, 2011 VILLAGE ELECTION

Brookfield's VIP Party has announced that it has selected Wilfred Brennan, former trustee, Bill Russ, former village president and newcomer Douglas Tremper as its slate of candidates for the April 5, 2011 Village of Brookfield election. To date, the VIP Party has collected over 500 signatures from registered voters in Brookfield. Support is growing. People have had enough!

Wil Brennan is a retired Educator, Electrician and former Local # 134 Union Official. Wil served four years as a Village Trustee 2005-2009 and also served as Village Finance Chairman, Public Works Liaison and Zoning Board Liaison. Wil brings a mix of experience, drive and fresh approach to his candidacy. His family has lived in Brookfield for over 100 years! He is also a member of the Brookfield VFW Post # 2868 Men's Auxiliary.

Wil said, "I was reluctant to run for Brookfield Village Trustee after the last election. Unfortunately, virtually all of the financial predictions and statements I made then have materialized, despite the denials of the incumbents. I feel that my experience will help Brookfield recover; unfortunately what's gone is gone. It is time to work together and rebuild Brookfield's solvency."

Russ an Insurance Administration Consultant and Licensed Real Estate Broker, served as Village President from 2001-2005 and as Village Trustee from 1989-1997 and 1999-2001, recently has served as president of the VIP Party. He is a 30 year resident, married to wife Barbara and has one son Ryan who is an A Honor Roll student at Nazareth Academy and also graduated St. Barbara in Brookfield. Russ is a Trustee of the Brookfield VFW Post # 2868 Men's Auxiliary.

Bill said, "The people are telling us that they have had enough and that they have never seen the village in such terrible shape! The people tell us they do not like the higher taxes, fees, high water bills and do not like the fact that there are less police and fire personal on the street. The people resent the fact that the Village Managers Office is bloated with staff and they want the board to make cuts there and trim the fat. They want new businesses in town and want the board to try and stop the existing ones from moving out. They want the all bickering and arguing between the village and zoo to stop. They want a Village Board that puts the people of Brookfield first. I have lived in Brookfield a long time and love the town and will do everything that I can to work together with everyone to make it a better place to live!"

Our slate's third candidate, Douglas Tremper is a newcomer to politics, he has many fresh new ideas and is 7 year resident. For the last 10 years Tremper has worked for a major travel company in Lombard, Illinois. He was also a small business owner for almost 20 years and knows how hard it is to run a small business and make a dollar. He has two children; Saamatha - 20 years old and Jay - 17 years old. He is also a member of the Brookfield VFW Post # 2868 Men's Auxiliary.

Doug said, "I have been walking the streets for weeks; talking and listening to people, about their frustrations with village government. We need to entice new business into town by first lowering the sales tax and by making new incentives to attract business because the T.I.F. District is not working! What about having some village events that can bring in a little revenue, like a variation of Brookfest or just a Taste? We need to make Ogden Ave. more attractive for businesses to come in and create a few parking lots for people to park, while shopping."

The VIP Party feels some of the issues are; the Village is broke, almost bankrupt because of poor management and planning, the board does not follow the 20/20 Master Plan, too many friends on the payroll from outside Brookfield, No new businesses on Ogden Ave., even with T.I.F. District more businesses than ever are empty, for sale and for rent, the old Lucas Tire property is still for sale after 5 years, the village has a very poor relationship with the Zoo, there are less police and fire personal to protect the residents, and one party controls the whole board.

List the top challenges facing this board and how you would address them: The Library Board is doing well; nevertheless, there is always room for improvement.  The most important challenge that the library faces is the need for space.  The Library Board's main goal is to build a new library or put an addition on the old one.  The board was starting to work on a plan for a new library by buying property in the village.  Due to unfortunate circumstances, the library was left with small parcel of land.  With ten years real estate experience, I can help the library capitalize on their previous investment.  I would like to assist the board on researching and writing grants to achieve the Brookfield Library's main goal.

I would like to see more programs for the residences at the library from children to seniors.  I would especially like to see programs for children and seniors who have disabilities.

I would like to offer some classes and tutoring for the children in the village.

Linda D. Stevanovich

Age: 57

Profession: Youth Services Associate at  the Indian Prairie Library In Darian, IL

Community / Political experience:
Served as Village of Brookfield trustee for 8 years
Served as a founding member of the Recycling Committee (now Conservation comm.)

Other / Professional experience:
Worked as an Assistant Director for Berwyn Development Corp.
Main Street Director for Winfield, Il.
Employed as a Substitute Teacher

Education:
BA from Elmhurst College
Assoc. from Triton College
Graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School

List the top challenges facing this board and how you would address them: Insuring that tax dollars are spent in the most efficient way given the difficult economy.  It is important to discuss options and not rush into ventures such as buying property without allowing public input, as was done with the house purchase and plans to build a new library.  I believe the facility we have is adequate, we just need to use all space the best we can.  I look forward to bringing a fresh perspective to this board, combined with my experience as a library employee and the knowledge of how government bodies function, I really believe I will be an asset to this facet of the community.

Francis M. Torres   -   Linda D. Stevanovich
